The goal here is not perfection. CARs are a conversation with your physical self, and any compensations you fall into is simply information about what needs attention.

‼️That information is important, because whatever needs attention will ultimately be the source of injury when ignored for too long.

For all of my students and clients who practice these with me, notice which one of these compensations you can relate to, and practice that awareness throughout your daily CARs!!

For those who are new to this movement, we are essentially trying to move your entire spine one section at a time. For those who are more advanced, we’ll even focus on one vertebra at a time.

While the two positions (flexion/extension - aka cat/cow) are relatively simple, to travel segmentally from one to the other is anything but. As my students would tell you, it’s harder than it looksπŸ˜›

Why do this?πŸ€”

When we move our whole spine at once, whatever sections don’t move well are effectively hiddenπŸ‘ŽπŸΌ

However…when we slow down and move one segment at a time, we can feel very clearly what moves well and what doesn’t.

Through these practices, we can address the parts that need attention, preventing them from causing us what are inevitable issues down the lineπŸ™ŒπŸΌ

The TGU is a staple throughout my programming, both for myself and my clients.

Why do I love it?πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

πŸ‘‰πŸΌThe TGU is a holistic, comprehensive movement that equally challenges strength, balance, and stability. It’s believed to have originated in Turkey *centuries* ago when wrestlers began using it to train for competitions. Since then, it’s been preserved and practiced by different fitness communities across globe.
β €
However...It’s not everyone’s favorite move.
β €
Why?
β €
Well...because it’s hard, and weird, and tricky to learn. (Truthfully it’s also tricky to teach.) There’s no hiding with a TGU - any restrictions or issues with your joint mobility/stability will be revealed. πŸ€“Side note - this makes it a great tool for assessment.
β €
I’ve seen plenty of strong lifters be humbled and/or unable to complete this movement with bodyweight. For them, it’s about building functional mobility and is a great move to program into a warm up or even as part of a daily practice.
β €
For more hyper/mobile types (and my yogi friends) this is a wonderful way to build *stability* and #mobilestrength.
β €

Although we love to mix our Daily workout up each day, we love our consistent warm up. We’ve designed our warm up to prime the muscles correctly by increasing joint mobility and improving muscle elasticity. You’ll be able to see and feel your body getting stronger, more agile, and faster week by week! We do similar warm ups with our adults and our youth because we  believe in the benefits of a proper warm up for all ages!
